Roger is the president and co-owner of Karkela Construction. He is responsible for general oversight and the direction of the company, with a focus on strategic development and objectives of the business, including overseeing project management and delivery, operations, client relations and marketing, while striving to execute at the highest industry standards. He is dedicated to delivering projects with the client’s best interest first and exceeding client’s expectations.

Roger joined the company in 1985, and has been involved in the construction and renovation of hundreds of healthcare, hospitality and commercial projects throughout the Midwest.

Roger has been building for satisfied customers for more than 30 years. Roger knows the power of referrals and “word of mouth” marketing in the construction business. That is why he is committed to delivering an exceptional experience with each project.

Several of Roger’s projects have been recognized with awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Roger is a recognized leader in the healthcare construction industry in the Minneapolis/St. Paul community. Among his current leadership positions, Roger serves on the board of the Associated Builders Association.

Jenny Hassenfritz

Jenny Hassenfritz

Jenny Hassenfritz started with Karkela in 2015 and has worked in the construction industry for more than 10 years, with experience in several types of construction including healthcare, commercial and education. Jenny has been involved with projects ranging from $20 to $90 million and some highlights include managing hospital remodels, a 265-unit apartment complex with club house, an athletic center with NCAA regulation pool and basketball court, LEED Platinum & LEED Gold buildings on two private college campuses in Minnesota, a six story office complex with a theater and commercial kitchen, and various tenant improvement build-outs.

Jenny is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and is actively involved in the community as an owner/teacher at Guiding Light Creative, a high school and middle school group leader with Hosanna!, and as a volunteer for KTIS.

Jenny’s passion for construction can be traced back through her family roots to her grandfather who was an ironworker and her father who is a project manager.

Russ joined the ATS team in 2014 and his current responsibilities includes the general oversite of the management of all Karkela projects, ensuring that each gets completed on time and on budget. He graduated from MSU-Mankato with a B.S. in Construction Management. Russ has 16 years of construction industry experience.

Russ grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota and now resides is Dover, MN. He is married with one child and in his spare time he enjoys hunting and fishing.

John Hill

VP of Estimating

John joined the Karkela team in 2013 with 12 years of experience in the construction industry. He graduated from Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Drafting and Estimating Technology in 2004. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, is CDT certified with the Construction Specification Institute, and serves on the Commercial Builders Council Executive Committee.

John oversees the cost estimating processes and maintains the estimating program primarily for projects that have complete bid documents. He has also managed dozens of successful projects including church renovations and additions, new retail buildings, residential projects over 10,000 sf, higher education additions and renovations, an alternative energy center, and a new hotel with 96 guestrooms and a swimming pool.

Pat Arnold

Project Manager

Pat joined the Karkela Construction team in 1986. His experience in the construction industry is extensive and spans over 40 years.

With more than 25 years on the Karkela team, Pat has managed many successful projects including a large liquor store/deli (23,000 square feet), a highly technical analytical laboratory, and hundreds of dental/healthcare clinics.

From ground-up projects to extensive interior remodeling projects, Pat assists customers with their needs for their particular building project and answers any questions that may arise during the planning stages.

Prior to joining Karkela, Pat began his career as a laborer for the bricklayers union and he transitioned into carpentry as an apprentice carpenter. Pat also owned a successful commercial and residential building company. Pat’s had experience with a wide range of commercial and residential projects prior to joining the Karkela team.

Mark joined the Karkela team in 1986. His experience in the construction industry is extensive and has spanned over 44 years. Customer satisfaction is Mark’s key value in working with clients.

Prior to joining Karkela, he began his career as a laborer for the bricklayers union. Mark eventually joined his brother’s (Pat Arnold) business in constructing new homes and commercial projects.

Mark’s many successful projects include multiple Valvoline Oil Change centers and hundreds of dental/healthcare clinics. His experience ranges from ground-up projects and expansions to extensive interior remodeling projects. With Mark’s experience, knowledge and understanding of the construction field, he will make the customer’s transition easy into their newly constructed or remodeled facility.

Matt Young

Matt Young joined the Karkela team in 2016, bringing with him 8 years of construction experience. Matt started his own remodeling business at the age of 20 and with his outgoing and enthusiastic personality he built a business based on client satisfaction and trust.

Over the years Matt completed hundreds remodels, many of which were featured on the Parade of Homes. In 2011, Matt decided to transition into commercial construction as a carpenter. The hands-on experience of building numerous types of commercial spaces including dental clinics, apartment complexes, medical and hospital equipment manufacturers, and numerous tenant improvement remodels has given Matt an eye for identifying issues early on allowing jobs to move forward efficiently.

Matt enjoys fishing with his wife Kim, spending quality time with family and volunteering his skilled labor at various local charities.
