A Story of Two Dentists
Lino Lakes Family Dentistry & Erlandson Dental
Lino Lakes Family Dentistry
Client
Profile
-
Lino Lakes Family Dentistry determined in 2001 that they
needed to construct a new building to house their growing
practice.
Client Needs
–
Lino Lakes Family Dentistry needed their new building to take
on a very clean "minimalist" look that would be most appealing
to their patients. Construction needed to be completed
by
Spring
2002 despite the challenges that construction during a
Minnesota Winter can bring.
Karkela’s
Solution
–
Because of Karkela Construction's reputation for completing
projects on time and on budget, the owners of Lino Lakes Family
Dentistry contacted Karkela for an architect recommendation
and for a construction bid.
Progressive Architecture, Inc. submitted the winning design
and Karkela began work in late 2001. Initially there was
a high sense of urgency to complete the construction tasks for
the building's foundation and parking lot area.
This
required a high degree of project planning and tight
sub-contractor coordination by Karkela Construction.
The
End Result
–
Karkela
was able to complete construction on time and on budget.
The owners and employees of Lino Lakes Family Dentistry were
happy and excited to move into their new building and to share
it with their patients.
James Erlandson Dental
Client
Profile
-
James Erlandson DDS determined in early 2001 that the time was
right in his professional and business growth to establish an
independent dental practice.
Client Needs
– In
keeping with a fresh start to the James Erlandson Dental
practice, Dr. Erlandson defined his building concept as
"classy" but with a design efficiency that would allow for the
best possible space utilization and easy installation and
setup of the equipment needed to operate a full-service dental
practice.
Karkela’s
Solution
–
Working from a design by Sjoquist Architects Inc., Karkela
Construction was able to balance a seamless equipment layout
for plumbing and electrical services with an interior that
blended lines, colors, and space with wood floors, granite
surfaces, and fabric wall coverings. The exterior of the
building utilized a balance of stucco and brick.
One of
the challenges facing Karkela Construction was rain.
During the construction process of the building shell, over 37
inches of rain fell in the Woodbury Minnesota area.
The
project manager at Karkela determined that after the first 1/2
inch of rain had fallen, each additional 1/2 inch resulted in
a 1-day construction delay because of mud. Despite the
minor delays caused by the weather, Dr. Erlandson was "in the
loop".
The
End Result
–
Dr. Erlandson and his
staff were very happy to move into a "home of their own" in
2002 and begin providing dental services to their patients.
