Prairie Dental Group
Client
Profile
-
In the Spring of 2000, the Prairie Dental Group signed a lease
for a new location outside of their previous enclosed shopping
mall location. Because of a non-negotiable "move out"
date from the mall location, the Prairie Dental Group
contacted Karkela Construction because of a previous working
relationship and Karkela's reputation for rapid response.
The firm of Mohegan Architects Ltd. was hired by Prairie
Dental group to create a unique design for their new office.
Client Needs
–
The owners of the Prairie Dental Group had a compressed 10
week time line in which to prepare to occupy their new office
space. The owner's desire to "set themselves apart" and
to keep Prairie Dental Group an attractive and affordable
provider of dental care to their patients was paramount.
Karkela’s
Solution
–
Because of the compressed timetable and need for rapid action
by Karkela, construction began without final plans and
materials selection. While not an ideal situation for a
remodeling project, each step of the project was evaluated and
bid by Karkela to keep moving forward. When the project
was under budget when it was completed.
Karkela
followed a "value engineering" methodology that allowed the
Prairie Dental Group to save money whenever possible.
For example, Karkela determined and recommended that the
swimming ducks ceiling fresco could be built without using
glass to simulate the lake bottom for significantly less cost.
The
End Result
– The owners and staff of the Prairie Dental Group were
delighted with the renovations to their new office.
Children of all ages make a special trip to the "must see"
area where the swimming ducks fresco is on display.
Karkela Construction's positive relationship with the Prairie
Dental Group is on-going. Karkela was recently asked to
upgrade and improve the Prairie Dental Group's downtown
Minneapolis office.
